In 1783, Bernardo de Gálvez shipped to travel to Galveston Bay, during this time, Galveston Island was called San Luis. The origin of the name is covered in a mystery, however, it is also known that Galveston Island has been called San Louis, before Gálvez named it San Luis. There is many historic past that has not been determined, but the name San Luis is a part of Galveston in spirit. Tilman Ferttita is the CEO and Founder of The San Luis Resort he developed a chain of networks called Landry's, which include the San Luis Resort, Hilton Resort, and IHOP.    ​
